MIDDLESEX, NJ - Rain has wreaked havoc with the spring sports schedule all week long. The Spotswood High School Baseball team finally got their game in with Middlesex High School on Thursday, May 5. However, the Blue Jays came out with the victory, beating the Chargers, 7-2.
Middlesex' Kyle Nepton held Spotswood to only three hits and two runs. Nepton struck out six batters and walked one in seven innings of work.
Andrew Fuzesi had a more difficult time on the mound. Fuzesi pitched 3.1 innings, giving up nine hits and seven runs. Six of the runs were earned. Fred Rago came on in relief and pitched the final 2.2 innings. Rago struck out three and walked one.
Mike Izzo was two-for-three for the Chargers with an RBI and a double. Senior Jake Ryan had the other hit for Spotswood.
Mike Salerno was two-for-three for Middlesex with two RBIs and a double.
Their loss drops the Chargers' overall season record to 7-9. They are 6-6 in league play.
The Chargers will travel to East Brunswick on Saturday, May 7 to take on the Bears at 2 p.m. if the weather permits.
