SPOTSWOOD, NJ - The Spotswood High School varsity football team lost its home opener to Shore Regional High School yesterday 7-3. The loss dropped the Chargers overall record to 1-1. However, they remain 1-0 in the Blue Divsion since the game against Shore was a non-conference match up.
It was a long afternoon on the field for the Chargers where Shore dominated much of the play in the first half. The Blue Devils scored their only touchdown of the game when Duke Russo caught a 37-yard pass from quarterback Matt Pennell. Their touchdown came early in the second quarter.
The Chargers only points in the contest came at the end of the first half when Connor McCloskey connected on a 37-yard field goal. On the first drive of the second half, the team attempted to build on the three-points, but missed a 40-yard field goal attempt. An interception late in the fourth quarter would end Spotswood's chances of pulling out the win.
Spotswood travels to Highland Park on Friday night. The game begins at 7 p.m. and is a conference game. Highland Park is 0-1 in the Blue Division and 1-1 overall on the season.
