Spotswood Varsity Softball Loses Pair

CARTERET, NJ - The Spotswood High School varsity softball team dropped a pair of games on Saturday at the Civic Center Park Sports Center. Spotswood lost to Edison High School 19-11 before being shutout 10-0 by Bishop Ahr High School.

A nine-run third and a seven-run fourth put the game against Edison out of reach for the Chargers. Jessica Hoover went the distance for Edison, giving up 11 runs on 12 hits. Gianna Fresnedo had two doubles and a homerun for Edison while Tori Giordano and Samantha Ryzewicz both hit two doubles as well.

Alyssa DeJianne got the win on the mound for Bishop Ahr, pitching all six innings and striking out eight batters. Maddie Chu took the loss for Spotswood, giving up 10 runs on 16 hits. Chu struck out one batter. Brittany Rifenburg hit a double for the Chargers. Megan Herka had two homeruns and a double with four RBIs for Bishop Ahr.

The two weekend losses dropped Spotswood's overall season record to 3-7. Spotswood is 3-3 in league play. The team takes on Mother Seton High School on Monday at the Spotswood High School Varsity Softball Team. Spotswood won the previous meeting between the two teams, 16-1. First pitch is at 4 p.m.
