Spotswood Varsity Tennis Loses to Metuchen

METUCHEN, NJ - After two consecutive matches were halted due to rain, the Spotswood High School boys varsity tennis team was able to complete a match. However, the end result was a loss to Metuchen High School yesterday. The Bulldogs beat the Chargers 4-1.

Playing without two starters, the Chargers lineup was slightly revamped and resulted in a forfeit at second double since the team was left short of players.

Jake Engstrom continued his stellar play at the first singles position. Engstrom defeated Anil Patel, 6-4, 6-2 to earn the only match point for Spotswood.

Stephen Gardner and Ryan Miller typically play second doubles for the Chargers, but moved up to first doubles yesterday. The pair lost in straight sets to the Bulldog's first doubles team of Andrew Allgauer and Romeo Tiu.

The Chargers were forced to forfeit the second doubles match due to the illness, absence and injury of three players. Their loss drops Spotswood's overall record on the season to 7-6.

Weather permitting, the team is scheduled to travel to Monroe High School for a 4 p.m. away match this afternoon.
