METUCHEN, NJ - A dreary week has forced two rain outs for the Spotswood High School boys varsity tennis team. However, they were finally able to take the court on Wednesday, April 26 to win their fourth straight match against Metuchen High School, 3-2. Their win again came down to a doubles match. Matt Evanego and Stephen Gardner defeated Sam Sinclair and Nate Strathman to nail down the win for the Chargers. Evanego and Gardner dropped the first set of their first doubles match, (6-4), but rallied back to take the next two, (6-3, 7-6). The pair won the third set tiebreaker, (7-4).
Derek Miller won his first singles match, beating the Bulldogs Ethan Longville, (6-2, 6-4). John Tobia also won at second singles in straight sets, defeating Jacob Dale. Josh Mathew lost a hard fought three set match to Metuchen's Sean Lu, (6-3, 2-6, 6-3) while the second doubles team of Mike Kaczmarsk and Ryan Miller lost in three sets as well to the Bulldogs' team of Anuar DeSantis and Ramik Rizman, (6-2, 1-6, 6-2).
The win improves the Chargers' overall record for 2017 to 5-2. They will travel to Woodbridge today to take on John F. Kennedy Memorial High School at 4 p.m.
