SPOTSWOOD, NJ - It was another difficult weekend on the mat for the Spotswood High School varsity wrestling team as they dropped outings to both South River and Edison. The Chargers lost 48-24 to the Rams and 55-15 to the Eagles. Both matches took place on Saturday, January 16.
The two losses dropped Spotswood's overall record on the season to 2-8. They are 2-4 in conference matches.
Despite the losses over the weekend, there were some bright spots for the Chargers. Junior Brandon Grover won both of his Saturday matches. Grover defeated South River's Dan Colon at the 160-pound weight class with a pin. He then won his match over Edison's Kirk Ianni at the 152-pound weight class by decision.
Freshman Nick Komosinski pinned the Rams' Alejandro Reyes at the 182-pound weight class. Michael LeRoy was victorious in his match at the 160-pound weight class, pinning the Eagles' Deandre Webb. Donald Shaffer took his 182-pound weight class match up over Edison's Dean Escobar on a pin.
The Chargers will look to shake off the losses against Metuchen with a home meet on Tuesday, January 19 at 6 p.m.
