CARTERET, NJ - The Spotswood High School varsity wrestling team defeated Carteret High School 44-30 on Tuesday, January 9. Their win improves the Chargers early season record to 3-3. Spotswood previously won meetings between Highland Park High School and Princeton High School. Their losses came against Monroe, Hightstown and Middletown South High Schools. Currently, the Chargers are third in the Greater Middlesex Conference Blue Division behind South River High School and Middlesex High School with a 2-0 division record.
Spotswood's Thomas Perpente, Zachary Weiner, Connor Platt and Jacob Oster all won their matches by forfeit. The Chargers' Shea Griffen defeated Mohammad Ahsan 2-2 on a pin while Matthew Bohinski took his match over Muavia Ahsan 3-2 on decision. Spotswood's Shea Obado won his match with Asadi Shakur 15-0 on a technical fall and Nick Komosinski defeated Winston Gonzalez 11-5 on a pin.
Connor Johnson lost his match to Carteret's Julian Santana 6-2 on a pin while Michael LeRoy lost his outing to the Ramblers' Jacob Vega 8-2 on decision. Spotswood's Alexander Smith was defeated by Carteret's Brandon Cmile 2-0 on a pin. Donald Shaffer lost to Carteret's Demetrius Ruiz 3-1 on decision. Both Yousef Elkalaka and Alex Hartman were defeated by Carteret's Frank Coghan and David Pierce on pins.
Spotswood will travel to Edison on Friday, January 12 to take on JP Stevens High School. The meet begins at 5:30 p.m.
