NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ - The Spotswood High School varsity baseball team opened up the 2017 season on Monday, April 3 with a convincing 6-0 victory over New Brunswick High School. Matthew Ciaccio was almost flawless on the mound, striking out 12 batters while pitching a five-inning no-hitter. Ciaccio allowed only one walk in the shutout win, recording his first victory of the season. 

Kalbin Rodriguez and Rodney Cuevas both spent time on the mound for New Brunswick, giving up a combined seven hits in the Zebra's loss. Both teams were charged with three errors.

Spotswood's Vinnie Guardiola had two hits, batting in two RBIs. Ryan Szatkowski had a double and three RBIs for the Chargers. The senior also scored two runs in the win.

The home-at-home will continue today for the two teams, weather permitting. New Brunswick will travel to the Spotswood High School Varsity Baseball Field today for Spotswood's home opener. The first pitch is at 4 p.m.
