MIDDLESEX COUNTY, NJ - The Middlesex County Clerk’s Office is offering a new alert service that could potentially save property owners from scams.

The free Property Alert Service will notify property owners by email any time a document affecting that owner’s property is recorded by the Clerk’s Office.

“Many scams are committed against property owners in the form of fake deeds or liens,” said County Clerk Elaine M. Flynn. “Sometimes it takes years for these fake documents to be discovered. When you sign up for this free service, you will be notified any time your name is recorded with the County Clerk’s Office, insuring that you are kept aware of all documents that are filed.”

Flynn said it is easy to sign up for the service: Simply register with your name or the name of your business and your email address on the County website. Once you are registered, you will be automatically notified by email if any documents are recorded under your name. Go to www.middlesexcounty.nj.gov and search “Property Alert” to register.

“Just like identity theft, property fraud is on the rise,” said Freeholder Director Ronald G. Rios. “While this service cannot prevent property fraud, it can ensure that you are made quickly aware of any paperwork filed under your name. I am pleased that we can offer this new program to help our residents detect information that may be fraudulent.”

Freeholder Blanquita B. Valenti, Chair of the Community Services Committee, said: “The Property Alert Service is an important tool you can use to stop potential scams.”

For information, please call the County Clerk’s Office at 732-745-3364 or 732-745-3365.
