SPOTSWOOD, NJ - Dr. Scott Rocco, superintendent of the Spotswood School District, will speak about the upcoming referendum prior to the Oct. 14 meeting of the Spotswood Recreation Deparment.

Rocco will be providing information to residents about the referendum, which will be on the Nov. 3 ballot for Spotswood and Helmetta voters. He will also be available to answer any questions that residents may have regarding the referendum.

The referendum will allow the Spotswood School District to address major security, safety and structural issues at all four schools. These issues were identified through  a survey that was conducted by the district throughout the community during the 2014-15 school year.

In preparation for the referendum, the district applied for and was awarded more than 3,000,000 in state funding, which will pay for a third of the more than 9,000,000 project. However, if the referendum fails, the school district will lose access to the state funding.

Since a part of the proposed project includes renovations and repairs to some of the school district's athletic and recreational facilities, Dr. Rocco will will be speaking prior to the October 14 meeting of the Spotswood Recreation Department. The REC Department utilizes many of the school's fields and facilities throughout the year for community-wide programs and events.

The meeting will take place at the Spotswood Municipal Complex on Summerhill Road in the Municipal courtroom at 7:15 p.m.
