SOMERVILLE, N.J. – A Franklin Township man is being held in the Somerset County Jail pending a court hearing after he was arrested by police with a loaded gun and suspected marijuana, according to Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson.

Michael Davis, 19 of Almond Drive, is charged with 2nd degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon,  4th degree Possession of Prohibited Weapons and Devices (hollow point bullets), 4th degree Obstruction of Administration of Law, 4th degree Hindering Apprehension and 4th degree Possession of Controlled Dangerous Substance (Marijuana less than 50 grams).

Members of the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Organized Crime and Narcotics Task Force (OCNTF), along with members of the Franklin Township Police Department, were staking out Bascom Park,located on Delmonico Lane in the Somerset section of Franklin on June 12 where they observed the suspect adjusting an item in the waistband of his pants.

Shortly after 3 p.m. the suspect exited the park and began walking towards the intersection of Delmonico Avenue and Wheeler Place.

The stake out team approached Davis for questioning and identified themselves as police officers. Davis ran back towards Bascom Park; tossing ahandgun from his waistband to the ground. The OCNTF recovered the firearm, a black 9mm Smith & Wesson handgun, and placed Davis under arrest without further incident.  

Davis was searched after his arrest and was found to be in possession of five individually packaged plastic bags of suspected marijuana, as well as one plastic bag which contained three hollow point bullets. The recovered black Smith & Wesson handgun was found to be loaded with hollow point bullets.
