MILLTOWN, NJ - Team Milltown is getting ready for their annual bicycle ride in the 2018 Police Unity Tour. In order to participate in the nationwide event that raises awareness and honors the lives of police officers that died in the line of duty, each member of the team from the Milltown Police Department must raise $1800. All of the proceeds from the ride go to benefit the National Law Enforcement Memorial Fund.
Team Milltown accomplishes the monetary goal through various fundraisers, leading up to the event in May. This year, Team Milltown is selling apparel online to help finance their participation in the 2018 Police Unity Tour. Choices include long and short sleeve tees along with a hoodie. All of the Team Milltown apparel sports the Police Unity Tour logo. Residents interested in ordering clothing to support their cause, can visit Team Milltown's website.
Team Milltown is also sponsoring a Tailgate Party on Sunday, October 22 at 4 p.m. at the Milltown American Legion Pavilion. Tickets are $5 for kids and $20 for adults.
In May of 1997, the inaugural Police Unity Tour was started by Officer Patrick P. Montoure of the Florham Park Police Department. Montoure’s hope was to bring attention to the police officers who had lost their lives in the line of duty and to recognize as well as honor their sacrifices.
This year's Police Unity Tour will begin on Wednesday, May 9.
