NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ - State police arrested a 16-year-old New Brunswick boy who allegedly stole an unmarked NJ State Trooper vehicle and took it on a joyride across Middlesex County.

Over the course of the spree across Middlesex County on Sunday, December 17, the suspect allegedly used the vehicle to commit two robberies, one attempted robbery and a theft at a gas station, according to authorities.

The vehicle was taken from the driveway of a North Brunswick house, where a state trooper resided, some time in the morning of December 17, according to police.

The car was reported stolen shortly after 9:30 a.m., when the trooper noticed the car missing from the driveway, according to police.

Inside the car were several uniforms, two weapons and other equipment, though none of the weapons were used or displayed by the suspect, police said.

During the first incident at 5:45 a.m., a truck driver was stopped southbound on the New Jersey Turnpike near Interchange 10, when the suspect identified himself as a trooper and requested money from the driver as a fine for speeding, according to police.

The driver refused and drove away, police said, and reported the incident the next day.

Then at 6:50 a.m., the suspected pulled over a truck drive at the the NJ Turnpike southbound lanes in South Brunswick, authorities said, stealing cash from the driver.

At 7:19 a.m., the driver filled the trooper vehicle with gas at a station on St. George Avenue in New Brunswick and then left without paying, authorities said.

Then at 7:30 a.m., the suspect stopped a cab at the Woodbridge Center Mall in Woodbridge, and stole cash from the driver, police said,.

Authorities determined the identity of the suspect following a joint investigation between the North Brunswick Police and NJ State Police Homicide North Unit, based on forensic analysis of evidence recovered during the investigation.

They arrested the suspect on Wednesday, December 20, and later that day, recovered the two issued weapons, which were found in the stolen trooper car in the area of Dogwood Court in New Brunswick.
