The Rain Stopped, But Hillsborough Police Chief Got Soaking Wet at the Rotary Fair

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ - Police Chief Darren Powell got soaking wet, event though the rain had stopped in time for the Hillsborough Rotary Fair to hold its Grand Opening Tuesday as planned by 6 p.m.

Powell volunteered to sit on the trap door at the dunk tank to help raise money for the Rotary and someone got their money's worth, hitting the bulls eye target with the ball  to release the latch on the trap door, dropping the chief into the water.

Powell was on hand earlier with Mayor Carl Suraci and members of the Township Committee - Frank Delcore, Gloria McCauley, Doug Tomson and Greg Burchette for the ribbon cutting with members of the Rotary, including Anthony Franchini.

Powell, Suraci and Burchette are members of the Rotary.

This is the 10th year the Hillsborough Rotary has hosted the fair adjacent to the Hillsborough Promenade Shopping Center off Route 206.

There are 21 rides and amusements, dozens of food vendors and displays hosted by area clubs, organizations and businesses.

Hours are 6-10 p.m. Wednesday & Thursday, 6-11 p.m. Friday & Saturday and 2-7 p.m. Sunday.

Thursday and Saturday will be pay-one-price $30 wristband nights.

A fireworks display is scheduled for Friday night, Aug. 18.

All monies raised by the Rotary Fair are funneled back into the community in the form of scholarships, contributions to various charities and non-profit organizations, and programs sponsored by the Rotary.
