EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ - The East Brunswick Police Department has shown appreciation to Young Israel of East Brunswick for the recent purchase acquisition of two solar-powered Evolis Radar Speed Signs by ElanCity which were recently installed on Dunhams Corner Road.

With 13.4″ speed digits and a large text display with ultra bright LEDs, the Evolis radar speed sign is the market’s most visible and effective system for traffic-calming projects. LEDs are displayed in 3 colors to psychologically impact the driver’s behavior (green – amber – red,) says the product website.

"The addition of these signs will most certainly enhance the already-improved safety characteristics in place along the roadway, " said police.

A statement issued Friday by the East Brunswick Police expressed gratitude for the community support: "It is through these collaborative efforts and relationships that give us the ability to improve upon the safety and security of our roadways for the entire community."

Ari and Sari Horowitz, leaders of the Young Israel congregation in East Brunswick, were killed by an out-of-control car at the intersection of Dunhams Corner Road and Hardenburgh Lane while walking home from Sabbath services in 2012, a day before Rosh Hashanah.

Aron Adams, the congregation president, said "people often drive too fast" on Dunhams Corner Road. In an interview with nj.com, Adams said, "It’s a very residential area, but people want to use it as a highway," noting that the speed limit was 40 miles per hour at that time.

Since the accident, the speed limit on Dunham's Corner Road has been reduced to 30 mph from the intersection of Cranbury Road to the rural area past Crystal Springs, where it becomes a 40 mph zone.
