Twelve Units of Housing for the Homeless Opening in New Brunswick

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ - "Zebra Way," - a housing development to serve the homeless - is opening next week at 101 Zebra Way in New Brunswick.

The project - part of a 10-year effort to end homelessness in Middlesex County - is a partnership between Coming Home of Middlesex County, Inc.,  with the  Bergen County United Way / Madeline Housing Partners.

The development comprises 12 units of permanent supportive housing for the homeless. Six units will be supported by housing vouchers created to assist persons who are homeless with disabilities and/or special needs, while the remaining units have low cost rent. Those six units are targeted for the “hardship homeless,” such as people who are homeless, but do not necessarily have a disability or special need.

Zebra Way’s tenants are being selected from the Middlesex County’s Coordinated Assessment Program. Supportive case management for all tenants will be provided by Triple C Housing, which specializes in providing supportive services to individuals diagnosed with disabilities and are experiencing homelessness.

Financing for the project was provided through multiple sources, including $840,000 from Middlesex County’s Housing First Capital Fund, $450,000 from The City of New Brunswick’s HOME fund (HUD Funds), and $2.2 million from the New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency (NJHMFA).

A ribbon cutting event will take place 11 a.m. on March 7, including local, state and federal lawmakers.
