Veterans Day activities around New Brunswick, Nov. 9 to 12

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ - There are many ways to celebrate and honor the Hub City’s veterans this weekend, and Rutgers vets too. From discounts to freebies, parades and fun activities, local vets will ​be honored this weekend in many ways.

RU Vets Meeting

Rutgers veterans can drop in for the RU Vets’ annual meeting, 7:30 p.m on November 8 at the Veteran’s House, 14 Lafayette Street. Anyone who​ is​ interested in joining or who has more questions can contact RU Vets President William Zuzzio and 848-932-8387 or ZuzzioWK@hotmail.com.

USAF America Concert Band performance

​There's a ​free concert at​ the​ State Theate​r​, 15 Livingston Avenue on November 9. Th​is​ Concert Band is comprised of over 40 professional Airman-musicians, who’ve put on orchestral classics, marches, Broadway hits, movie music and more.

Patrons should arrive at 6:20 p.m. Seats are on a first-come, first-serve​d​ basis and seat selection is at 6:45 p.m. Concert goes​ from​ 7 to 9 p.m. Those without tickets will be admitted​,​ space permitting.

Breakfast with Assemblyman Joe Danielsen

Veterans can stop by the Stage House Tavern at 1719 Amwell Road in Somerset, on Friday, November 10, 9 to 11 a.m., for a breakfast with Assemblyman Joe Danielsen of the 17th Legislative District​, who breezed to re-election on Tuesday​. Those interested in attending should register by contacting​ Danielsen’s office at 732-247-3999 or asmdanielsen@njleg.org

Veteran’s Day Parade

​The ​parade is November 11 and co-hosted between New Brunswick, Highland Park and the Veteran’s Alliance of Raritan Valley. ​The parade steps off at 11 a.m at the Doughboy Statue at the intersection of Raritan and Woodbridge ​A​venue. The parade continues down Raritan Avenue and into New Brunswick, ending at Monument Square. Separate ceremonies will take place at the Doughboy Statue and Monument Square.

Rutgers Rugby Veteran’s Day Game

​There's a ​rugby game between Rutgers and ​SUNY ​Binghamton​.on November 11, 2:30 p.m. at the Busch Sports Club Field at 656 Bartholomew Road in Piscataway.

Restaurant Discounts and Deals

Deals and discounts for veterans are being offered at Applebee’s, Red Robin, McCormick & Schmick’s Seafood & Steaks and the Stage House Tavern.

Retail Discounts and Deals

Veteran's will have access to nationwide retail details, including Amazon, Dollar General, Great Clips and even a free car wash

Recreation Discounts and Details 

There are many out-of-town activities veterans can take part in this weekend. Six Flags Great Adventure is hosting a veteran's day celebration, free for veterans and $30 for friends and family. Veterans will also be given free admission to any of the country's national parks on November 11 and 12.
