Watson Coleman, Norcross to Head Congressional Infrastructure Task Force

WASHINGTON, DC -  – Today, House Democratic Caucus Chairman Joe Crowley (D-NY) and Vice Chair Linda Sánchez announced the launch of the Jobs for America Task Forces, a unified effort from the House Democratic Caucus to craft a real legislative agenda that will benefit hardworking Americans and middle-class families.

The Jobs for America Task Forces will create opportunities for job growth, boost hardworking families, and give every worker the opportunity to achieve the American Dream by developing legislation focused on investing in key industries, restoring worker benefits, removing barriers to help workers find stable and well-paying jobs, helping our veteran communities transition to the workforce, and identifying jobs of the future in conjunction with the Better Deal.

“Our economy isn’t working for far too many Americans. Middle-class families and hardworking men and women are struggling to find and retain good-paying jobs, obtain much-needed financial security, and retire with the confidence they deserve after a lifetime of hard work,” said Chairman Crowley. “Democrats are fighting day in and day out for American families and workers. Our Jobs for America Task Forces will provide a specific roadmap for how workers and families can obtain better wages, better jobs, and a better future.”

“House Democrats are focused on helping America’s working families through our bold efforts to create jobs, grow paychecks, and strengthen our economy so that it will work for everyone,” said Vice Chair Linda Sánchez. “Our priority is to support the men and women who make up the backbone of our country. The House Democratic Caucus Jobs for America Task Forces will work to advance a comprehensive agenda that will include everything from job-creating tax policies to apprenticeship training programs that will help give families more financial security.”

The Jobs for America Task Forces consists of five task forces, each charged with identifying opportunities and solutions for American workers in five key areas: Rebuilding America, Jobs With Dignity, Access to Jobs, New Economy, and Reinvesting in Our Returning Heroes. Each task force will be chaired by a cross-section of members of the House Democratic Caucus. In the coming months, co-chairs of the task force will meet with business and labor leaders, issue experts, and American workers to develop policy goals and solutions that will benefit all Americans.

Democrats’ Better Deal agenda – a promise to Americans to deliver better wages, better jobs, and better futures – will guide the task forces as the co-chairs develop a jobs-focused legislative package for House Democrats.

Descriptions of the Jobs for America Task Forces are below:
REBUILDING AMERICA TASK FORCE

The Rebuilding America Task Force will put Americans back to work by modernizing our nation’s infrastructure, expanding job opportunities in key industries, launching a school construction boom, updating our power grid and water infrastructure, and taking a visionary approach to the projects needed to put our country at the forefront of innovation.

Co-Chairs: Reps. Matt Cartwright (Pennsylvania), Jimmy Gomez (California), Donald Norcross (New Jersey), and Bonnie Watson Coleman (New Jersey).

JOBS WITH DIGNITY TASK FORCE

By restoring the traditional employment benefits enjoyed by previous generations, the Jobs with Dignity Task Force will develop ideas to raise wages and increase profit-sharing, stand up for workers’ rights and benefits, and provide genuine financial and retirement security to all Americans.

Co-Chairs: Reps. Don Beyer (Virginia), Brendan Boyle (Pennsylvania), Brenda Lawrence (Michigan), and Raul Ruiz (California).

ACCESS TO JOBS TASK FORCE

The Access to Jobs Task Force will help workers achieve their full potential by expanding access to capital, encouraging entrepreneurship and small business ownership, increasing educational opportunities – including vocational skills development, professional licensing, and apprenticeship training – and eliminating senseless and outdated social barriers to work that affect many communities.

Co-Chairs: Reps. Ami Bera (California), Lisa Blunt Rochester (Delaware), Mark Pocan (Wisconsin), and Marc Veasey (Texas).

NEW ECONOMY TASK FORCE

With a rapidly changing economy and new challenges facing American workers, the New Economy Task Force will take a forward-leaning approach to job growth, looking at rapidly advancing technology, artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing, and ensuring workers are trained for the jobs of tomorrow.

Co-Chairs: Reps. Suzan DelBene (Washington), Debbie Dingell (Michigan), Raja Krishnamoorthi (Illinois), and Darren Soto (Florida).

REINVESTING IN OUR RETURNING HEROES TASK FORCE

The Reinvesting in Our Returning Heroes Task Force will build on the strengths of our military and the skills of our returning veterans to grow our economy and create new jobs. The focus will include ensuring the talents our veterans developed while serving can transition into the civilian job market and be harnessed for success.

Co-Chairs: Reps. Julia Brownley (California), Ruben Gallego (Arizona), Donald McEachin (Virginia), and Brad Schneider (Illinois).
