SPOTSWOOD, NJ - Zoom Balloons danced into the Spotswood Public Library on Tuesday, August 14, bringing music, balloons and laughter to celebrate the end of the summer reading program. Kids of all ages from babies and toddlers to seniors enjoy Zoom Balloons' unique blend of music and balloon art. Participants did the hokey pokey, the hulu along with other dances that got moms, dads and grandparents up and moving too.
Each child got a balloon sword while Spotswood Public Library Director C.L. Quillen received a flower corsage fashioned from balloons. The audience watched in fascination as Zoom made a balloon penguin complete with a hat and a heart showing his love for libraries. Last night's excitement also included a raffle of Somerset Patriot baseball tickets, which was won by Mary Leaver.
This year's summer reading theme was "Libraries Rock" and the library hosted an array of crafts, activities and programs revolving around rocks and gems all while getting people young and young at heart excited about reading. Young readers can turn in their reading logs until Friday, August 17 in order to qualify for prizes.
There will be remaining story time sessions on August 16 and August 23 for children from six months of age through 36 months as well as a special live streaming event on Sliding Glaciers on August 23 at 11 a.m. Registration can be done online for all upcoming library events.
The Spotswood Public Library's website will be updated with late summer and fall events as well as programs throughout the year. A diverse agenda of free programs are available year-round for both children and adults.
