SPOTSWOOD, NJ - John Welsh is better known around the halls of Spotswood High School as Jack. Welsh is a Milltown native and a member of the National Junior Honor Society. He was named as the high school's January Student-of-the-Month. Welsh has been a member of the Spotswood High School's baseball, basketball and cross-country teams. He scored 271 points in his final basketball season this winter and was named to the Greater Middlesex Conference All-Blue Division team for his performance on the court. Welsh just learned this week that he was the recipient of the 2019-20 Greater Middlesex Conference Sportsmanship Award for male athletes.

His favorite class at Spotswood High School has been Anatomy and Physiology. Mathematics teacher Thomas Pareti is his favorite teacher. While he has many memories of his time as a Charger, Welsh will never forget hitting his first varsity homerun at South River High School. He also was a part of the cross-country team's Greater Middlesex Conference White Division championship season and the baseball team's GMC Blue Division title his sophomore year. Other great remembrances for Welsh include winning the GMC freshman race and upsetting Carteret High School on the basketball court his junior year.

Welsh enjoyed having fun with spirit weeks during his four years at SHS as well as attending football games and prom. He was also named Homecoming King last October. In the fall, Welsh will be heading to Rowan University in Glassboro. He plans on majoring in Exercise Science.
