SPOTSWOOD, NJ - Spotswood High School senior Sarah Bier loves creating whether it is through dance, music, film or writing. Outside of school, the Milltown native enjoys spending her down time playing the guitar or drums. She is also an avid runner. Bier has been participating in the New Jersey Marathon since she was nine. She has completed the half-marathon and been a part of a marathon relay team.

Typically, the NJ Marathon is run in the spring. However, this year the coronavirus pandemic forced the race into November. When Bier laces up her sneakers this fall, it will be her tenth consecutive year as a runner in the New Jersey Marathon. She will be running on a team along with her mom Diane as a part of Run the Shore for a Cure. The funds Bier and her mom raise will go to help the Central New Jersey Brain Tumor Support Group. The group uses donations to help fund their National Brain Tumor Conference, student scholarships as well as brain tumor research.

Bier has a lot of fond memories of her time as a Charger. Many of them involve filming for Spotswood High School Vocational teacher Andrew Zaborney. All four Spirit Weeks were fun as was her Friday the 13th movie nights with her friends. Bier will always treasure the special memories she made through art and film along with the Dunkin Donuts and Chick-fil-A runs.

The teen has enjoyed many of her classes at Spotswood High School over the last four years. Her favorites were College Comp with English and Language Arts teacher Christopher Gozick, Psychology with Social Studies teacher Colleen Meyers and Film with English and Language Arts teacher Ronald Panico. Bier also gives high marks to Spotswood High School's Special Education teacher Leonard Hollender.

The coronavirus pandemic has altered Bier's senior year. While she appreciates not having to wake up so early in the morning, she misses her friends and teachers. Bier would love the opportunity to finish her senior year at school with her classmates and teachers. She will always treasure the friendships she has made at Spotswood High School. In the fall, Bier will be continuing her education at Montclair State University.
