HELMETTA, NJ - Borough native Brittany Wheary is a nursing student doing double duty during the coronavirus crisis. Wheary is studying to be a nurse while working 12-hour shifts as an Emergency Room tech in both Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick and Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune.

Wheary does what is needed in the ER, helping doctors, supporting patients, giving comfort to frightened people awaiting care and more. She is always there to lend a hand especially to patients alone in the emergency room. Her supportive and proud family says that Wheary "serves with courage and compassion while trying to keep herself, coworkers and her family safe." When she is not at the ER or studying for her nursing degree, Wheary loves spending time with her two horses. Outside of work and school, Wheary is a competitive barrel racer.

If you know a Helmetta Hometown Hero like Wheary who is on the frontline of the coronavirus crisis, send borough Mayor Chris Slavicek an email at mayor@helmettaboro.com. Nominations should include the person's name, a brief description of their job, what makes them a hometown hero and a photograph.
