SPOTSWOOD, NJ - The borough's Office on Aging is again putting together care packages for community members serving in the military. Donations are needed to make the care packages full and memorable so that the contents can be shared with fellow unit members. The Office on Aging sent out 12 care packages earlier this year and is planning on sending another batch out in August. Any residents with relatives in the military are asked to contact the office by calling 732-251-3432 so that care packages can be sent to their units.

Donations can be dropped off at the Office on Aging during regular business hours. The Office on Aging is located at 1 Arlington Avenue, Suite 401 and is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

Suggested donation items include:

  • coffee
  • tea bags
  • flavor packets to add to water
  • powdered creamer
  • eye drops
  • lip balm
  • lotion
  • crossword puzzles
  • word searches
  • paperback books
  • current magazines
  • comic books
  • ketchup
  • mustard
  • relish
  • hot sauce

Travel-sized personal care items are needed as well, but should not be areosol cans. Residents can also send a personal note or a child's drawing to be included in the care packages. Any notes, letters or drawings should be signed with a first name and a last initial. Residents are asked not to include their full name or address. Instead, the address of the Spotswood Office on Aging can be used in order to get a return letter.
