OLD BRIDGE, NJ - The roaring 20s was the theme and the Grand Marquis was the location for the Spotswood PTA's tenth annual tricky tray. This hugely popular event is a major fundraiser for the volunteer organization which supports the Spotswood School District's schools. All of the funds generated from the events are funneled back to students and teachers throughout the academic year. This year's event was the last for Sptoswood PTA President Melissa Hallerman who is retiring from her position and the organization at the conclusion of the school year along with Spotswood PTA Fundraising chair Tami McGeachy.
"This is very bittersweet for me," Hallerman explained. "The tricky trays are a true labor of love, but I've seen the positive benefits that it directly has on our schools and that makes all the blood, sweat and tears worth it."
More than 500 people came out to celebrate the PTA's tenth tricky tray even though it had moved from its usual venue at Spotswood High School for the special milestone year. Attendees included Helmetta Mayor Chris Slavicek and Spotswood School District principals Jennifer Asprocolas and Brian Kitchin.
"Throughout the years I've seen teacher's classrooms transformed, playgrounds enhanced and students' education levels elevated directly from the tricky tray," Hallerman continued.
Planning for the event typically begins shortly after the previous one concludes. Last year's theme was Mardi Gras. The organization made the decision early in 2019 to move the tricky tray to an outside venue in order to accommodate more people for its special milestone.
"The Spotswood PTA is truly blessed to have the hardest working team around," Hallerman said. "To carry out an event of this caliber is a true testament to selflessness and teamwork."
"The organization was very fortunate to have Tami McGeachy at the helm once again," Hallerman added. "Her hard work, dedication and drive was the beating heart of the tricky tray for the last 10 years. She will be sorely missed as she heads into retirement at the end of the school year."
