HELMETTA, NJ - This has been a difficult week for borough residents as the coronavirus spread began to creep closer and closer to area communities. Helmetta Mayor Chris Slavicek is offering the following message to borough residents during this unprecedented time:

Neighbors & friends,

The Helmetta Office of Emergency Management is closely monitoring this uncertain condition and remains proactive with communication as it pertains to the best practices and ultimate safety measures. Our schools will be closed this week and distance learning will commence. I have been in constant communication with school administration and have extended support and assistance wherever need be to ensure our students and teachers are safe and comfortable.

I will closely monitor statistics and possible borough closures that may result in the very near future. I strongly encourage a proactive approach and implement voluntary quarantine to the best of your ability. It is critical to wash your hands and practice social distancing. Most importantly, please reach out should you need support or know of neighbor that may be in need. We strive to unite and keep positive thoughts that all the residents within our beautiful community remain safe.

I understand and share the anxiety that coincides with this pandemic. I offer warm thoughts and an olive branch as we witness some of our close neighboring communities dealing with this firsthand. Thank you to our Office of Emergency Management, first responders, healthcare workers, school administration, teachers and community workers who work tirelessly to attend to the needs of our community, especially at this crucial moment. We are fortunate for their service!
