HELMETTA, NJ - Borough Mayor Chris Slavicek began his Helmetta Hometown Hero campaign two weeks ago to highlight residents putting themselves on the frontline of the coronavirus fight day after day. On Tuesday, borough residents sent out a huge thank you to their mayor, naming him a Helmetta Hometown Hero.

"On behalf of all the residents of Helmetta, we would like to recognize our hometown hero Mayor Chris Slavicek, our fearless leader," Yvette Bruno posted on the Borough of Helmetta Facebook page. "Born and raised in Helmetta, he is the heart of our town and continues to support our community especially in these most difficult times. During these difficult times he has kept a smile on his face and made sure to keep a smile on all of ours. He continues to keep our town well-informed and fulfills his mayoral duties. He has also had time to include our children during these difficult times by coming together with fun events like placing teddy bears around the town, drawing on side walks around town, front lawn parties, Candlelight for a Cause and always supports our local Police, EMS and Firefighters ....for all of Helmetta, he is our hometown hero, and we get to call it our hometown because of him! He has done a fantastic job, and we know he will continue to do so."

"Thank you for everything you do Mayor Chris Slavicek," Bruno added.

The popular mayor is a lifelong resident of Helmetta and ran unopposed in the 2019 mayoral election. Slavicek is also affectionately known as Mr. Chris to Appleby School students past and present since he has directed the annual fifth grade play for the last 18 years. Slavicek first decided to run for the office of mayor back in 2015, defeating then incumbent mayor, Nancy Martin.
