SPOTSWOOD, NJ - Borough pet owners have until January 31 to renew licenses for their four-legged family members. Licenses are required by the New Jersey Department of Health for all residents who have a dog or a cat seven months of age or older. Licenses must be renewed each calendar year. Failure to do so could result in a fine according to Borough Code §46-2. Licenses are valid from January 1 through December 31 each calendar year. A $5 late fee is applied to all license applications received after February 7. License fees are not prorated according to information available on the borough website.

License fees are $14 for spayed or neutered pets and $17 for non-spayed or neutered animals. Documentation is required for spayed or neutered pets. Residents should submit copies of the documentation and not sent originals. Spaying or neutering is not required for a license, however a current rabies vaccination is. A license cannot be issued without a current rabies vaccination.
