NEW BRUNSWICK - Chris Dailey grew up in the city, and played basketball for St. Peter's High School and  Rutgers University, and was on the team that won a national AIAW championship her senior year in college.

She became an assistant coach at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y., then was an assistant to Rutgers coach Theresa Grentz before becoming an assistant coach on the staff of University of Connecticut coach Geno Auriemma.

Earlier this month, Dailey, now associate head coach at UConn, was inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame.

“It’s a big deal,” New Brunswick city council Vice President John Anderson said at the council meeting this week.

“She’s New Brunswick born and bread,” Anderson said.

The council passed a resolution honoring Dailey, who was a 1977 graduate from St. Peter’s High School in New Brunswick.

Dailey graduated from Rutgers in 1982 with a degree in health and physical education. She was a team captain during her junior and senior year. In her years at the university, the woman’s basketball team complied a record of 108-82.

In 1992, 10 years after graduating, Dailey was inducted into the Rutgers University Lady Knights Hall of Fame as a member of the championship team.

Dailey recently completed her 33rd season as associate head coach.

“So we congratulate Chris on her entering the women’s hall of fame,” Anderson said.
