NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ - A Paterson woman was a arrested and charged with homicide for a fatal drunk-driving crash last month in which an 80-year-old man was killed and another person was injured on Route 1 in North Brunswick, authorities said.

 Elizabeth Gomez, 42, faces one count of second-degree vehicular homicide for the crash in the early morning hours of Sept. 22, Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew Carey and North Brunswick police Director Kenneth McCormick said in a statement.

They said Gomez was driving a 2007 BMW X3 on Route 1 when she ran a red light and crashed into a 2016 Chevrolet Malibu causing the death of the driver, Wen-Fu Lin, 80, of East Brunswick, who as pronounced dead at the scene.

North Brunswick police Officer Jason Zier and Detective David Abromaitis of the prosecutor’s office investigated and crash and determined  Gomez was intoxicated, Carey said.

Gomez also faces a single count of fourth-degree assault auto, for the injury to a 47-year-old passenger in the Malibu. That passenger was taken to a local hospital and treated for his injuries, authorities said.

Police also issued Gomez three motor vehicle summons for driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless driving, and failure to observe a red traffic signal.
