HELMETTA, NJ - Rob Simonelli Jr. is a fulltime 911 dispatcher for the Spotswood Police Department. In addition to that, the borough resident is a volunteer firefighter with the Helmetta Fire Department and also works as a firefighter for Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson. His dedication to service and his community are why Simonelli is Monday's Helmetta Hometown Hero.

Within the Helmetta Fire Department, Simonelli has achieved the rank of second lieutenant, first lieutenant and captain. On top of his work as a firefighter, Simonelli previously worked as an emergency medical technician for Spotswod EMS. The Simonelli family has a wonderful tradition of helping out Santa with all his visits during the holiday season. Simonelli has eagerly followed in the footsteps of his grandfather to become a very special part of Helmetta's annual tree lighting, the borough's fire department Santa tour and the community-wide breakfast with Santa.

When he is not at work or volunteering, Simonelli enjoys spending time with friends. He loves playing his guitar during his down time. Filming and editing videos is a favorite pastime.

If you know a Helmetta Hometown Hero like Simonelli who is on the frontline of the coronavirus crisis, sent Borough Mayor Chris Slavicek as email at mayor@helmettaboro.com. Nominations should include the person's name, a brief description of their job, what makes them a hometown hero and a photograph.
