SPOTSWOOD, NJ - A female resident was injured on Saturday afternoon when she was hit by a train while walking along the railroad tracks. The 52-year-old victim was taken to an area hospital by Spotswood EMS. The accident is currently under investigation by Conrail. Information was not available on the condition of the woman.

According to statistics from the Federal Railroad Administration, pedestrian trespassing and vehicle collisions at railroad crossing account for 95 percent of railroad-related fatalities. Since railroad tracks are considered private property, it is considered trespassing to walk along them. California ranks highest in the nation for deaths and injuries related to people walking along railroad tracks. New Jersey had 25 railroad track-related pedestrian deaths and 10 injuries in 2018.
