SPOTSWOOD, NJ - With fall sports concluded, it's time for the Spotswood High School winter sports to take center stage and the cheerleading squad is ready to hit the sidelines under the direction of head cheerleading coach Jackie Cassidy. Cassidy is entering her sixth year as head coach and previously coached the Memorial Middle School cheerleading squad. The longtime Schoenly School kindergarten teacher is a product of the Chargers cheerleading program.

Joining the squad this year are freshmen Kathryn Bernstein, Alice Melvin, Laney Dwyer, Skylar Griffin, Maddie Longo, Heather LoSacco, Danielle Perry and Vanessa Quinn as well as sophomores Naomi Roy and Shannon Snook. The newcomers are joining returning members seniors Alexis Oresto, Amya Coleman, Tiana Holmes, junior Kayline Medina and sophomores Gabby Palfey, Amy Bacchetti, Juliana Handwerk and Megan Caspet.

The Chargers varsity squad lost key members Emily Petscavage, Dominique Carlson, Megan Megan Vaughn-Haupt and  Emily Mosquera to graduation. 

With tryouts concluded, the squad is getting prepared to be sidelines for both the Chargers boys varsity and girls varsity home games. Scrimmages start for the varsity basketball programs on December 6. The boys varsity hosts South Plainfield High School on Friday, December 20 at 7 p.m. while the girls season home opener is Monday, December 23 at 6 p.m. when the Chargers host JFK.
