NORTH BRUNSWICK, NJ - Kaylee Leonard netted the only goal of the game for the Spotswood High School girls varsity soccer team in Friday's 1-0 victory over North Brunswick High School on a pass from Sofia Vieira. Julia Masucci made 23 saves to earn her tenth shutout of the season. Ava Gianni made 10 saves for North Brunswick. Spotswood closed out the regular season with a 12-3-2 overall record. For the third straight season, the Chargers finished second in the Greater Middlesex Conference Blue Division. Wardlaw Hartridge and Metuchen High Schools shared the Blue Division title, finishing with identical 11-2-1 division records and splitting their regular season games.
Spotswood is fourth in the conference behind East Brunswick, South River and Wardlaw-Hartridge High Schools. The Chargers are also fourth overall in the GMC behind South River, East Brunswick and Wardlaw-Hartridge. South River has the best overall record in the GMC. The Rams are 15-1 overall.
Spotswood awaits the seeding announcement for the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group Two Tournament after a first round exit in the GMC Tournament. Seedings will be announced for the state tournament on Tuesday, October 22.
