MONORE, NJ - Senior Maddie Hellerich dropped 28 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to earn a double-double in the Spotswood High School girls varsity basketball team's 58-40 victory over Perth Amboy High School in the consolation game of the Monroe Holiday Tournament Monday. Hellerich was the top scorer of the game. Allison Clarke scored nine points for Spotswood and Jessica Addesso added eight. Gianna Perez scored five points while Julia Masucci put in three. Megan Devlin and Kirti Craig both chipped in two. Cat Riley added one. Angie Holguin netted 18 points for Perth Amboy.
Spotswood took a 25-17 lead into the halftime break and put up 21 points in the final quarter to nail down the win. The Chargers were defeated by the host team, Monroe High School on Saturday 71-29 in the first round of the annual holiday tournament. Monroe is facing Steinert this evening in the finals. Steinert defeated Perth Amboy 52-40 in the first round.
The Chargers return to regular season action on Friday when the team hosts Carteret High School. Carteret has an overall record of 1-2. Spotswood is 3-1 to start the season and lost both outings against the Ramblers last season. Tip off is at 5:30 p.m. at the Spotswood High School Gymnasium.
