SPOTSWOOD, NJ - Mandee Mendez scored her 11th goal of the season to lead the Spotswood High School girls varsity soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Middlesex High School. The win was the ninth shutout of the season for Julia Masucci. Masucci made seven saves and has given up just two goals in 11 games for the Chargers. Denise Carroll earned her first point of the season, assisting on Mendez's goal.

Spotswood's overall record improves to 9-0-2 with the win over the Blue Jays. The Chargers remain one of two unbeaten teams in the Greater Middlesex Conference. South River High School has a 9-0 and has only given up two goals as well in 11 games. The two rivals are not scheduled to meet in the regular season, but may end up facing off in the Greater Middlesex Conference Girls Soccer Tournament later this fall.

Spotswood is back on the field on Wednesday when the team travels to Edison to play St. Thomas Aquinas High School. Game time is 4 p.m. The Chargers defeated St. Thomas earlier this month, winning 2-1. Jayana Correa broke Spotswood's four game shutout streak at the start of the season.
