SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ - Mandee Mendez scored two goals and added one assist as the Spotswood High School girls varsity soccer game defeated South Plainfield High School on Wednesday 4-1. Mendez netted her ninth and tenth goals of the season and also has nine assists in ten games. Kirti Craig had one goal for Spotswood and one assist. Kayla Sabo had one goal for the Chargers who completed the season sweep of the Tigers with the win. Laci Brown had one assist for Spotswood. Alexandra Gibson scored the lone goal for the Tigers on a pass from Jessica Conti.
South Plainfield's goal was only the second of the season allowed by Spotswood goalkeeper Julia Masucci. Masucci made 10 saves for Spotswood while her counterpart Rebecca Hollo made seven. The victory improves Spotswood's overall season record to 8-0-2. Spotswood remains one of two unbeaten teams in the Greater Middlesex Conference. South River is the other. The Rams defeated South Amboy 6-0 yesterday to keep their streak alive.
Spotswood hosts Middlesex High School on Friday at the Spotswood High School Varsity Soccer Field. Game time is 4 p.m. The Chargers won the previous meeting between the two teams 3-0.
The girls varsity soccer team is hosting a dine-to-donate today at Playa Bowls in East Brunswick from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Diners just need to show the above pictured flyer on their smartphones to support the team.
