CARTERET, NJ - Mandee Mendez netted a hat trick and Julia Masucci earned her seventh shutout of the season as the Spotswood High School girls varsity soccer team defeated Carteret High School 4-0 on Friday. Spotswood completed the sweep of the Ramblers with the victory and broke their two-game scoreless streak after back-to-back 0-0 ties with Metuchen and Wardlaw-Hartridge High Schools. Mendez also had an assist in the game giving the junior four points on the afternoon. Sophomore Kirti Craig had one goal and two assists in the game. Laci Brown also had an assist.

Masucci made eight saves in the win and has only given up one goal in Spotswood's eight games this season. Angie Cedeno made 11 saves for Carteret. The victory improves the Chargers overall season record to 6-0-2. Spotswood remains one of two undefeated teams in the Greater Middlesex Conference. South River High School is the other. The Rams have a 7-0 record. The two teams do not play each other during the regular season this year.

Sposwood is back in action on Monday when the team hosts John F. Kennedy Memorial High School at 4 p.m. at the Spotswood High School Varsity Soccer Field. The Chargers defeated JFK earlier this season, shutting out the Mustangs 6-0.
