SPOTSWOOD, NJ - The Memorial Middle School girls basketball team wrapped up the 2019-20 season with a big win over South River Middle School. The Rams were 14-0 when the two teams took the court last week. The Colts handed South River the team's first loss of the season, stopping their unbeaten streak. Memorial's 34-28 victory was huge since the rivalry between the two towns is always a hot one. Before Spotswood High School opened, borough students went to South River High School.
"We played them previously with two starters out on injuries and a couple girls out with the flu, so we did not get to compete at our highest potential," said Memorial Middle School basketball coach Heather Rounds. "It was a great game that had everyone on the edge of their seats right until the last second! We love playing South River because they’re always a challenging team to beat."
Rounds is a Physical Education teacher at Spotswood High School and has coached Memorial's girls basketball program for the past three years.
Memorial completed the season with a 12-3 overall record. Members of the 2019-20 Colts squad include Jorden Oster, Camryn Snyder, Autumn Harper, Maggie Keelen, Kylie Fecskovics, Danielle Salvensen, Gabby Barasch, Brianna DelAversano, Mikayla DaRocha, Jenna Maisano, Ashley Judah, Lael Leaver, Gabby Gioffre, Josie Longo, Hailey Krainski and Samantha Zeron. Eighth graders Oster and Snyder served as captains for the Colts.
