SPOTSWOOD, NJ - Lace up the sneakers and get ready for the borough's annual 5K and Fun Run. The race is hitting the streets on Saturday, September 14. Early bird registration is up and running and can be done online. The one-mile fun run begins at 8:45 a.m. with the 5K following at 9 a.m. Early bird prices are $25 for the 5K and $20 for the fun run. Prices increase midnight on September 1.
The family-friendly event includes t-shirts for all registered runners as well as food and refreshments. Random prizes are awarded to registered runners. Runners must be present at the award ceremonyfollowing the race to receive their prizes.
Milltown's Joseph Harold won the 2018 Spotswood 5K with a time of 17:09.0. Harold, a recent Spotswood High School graduate, was a member of the Spotswood High School cross country team. Spotswood resident, Josh Engstrom was the only finisher in the top ten who was not a teenager or a member of the Chargers cross country team. Engstrom finished the race with a time of 20:35.5. Kaysi Fajardo was the top overall female finisher, coming across with a time of 23.03.7. Fajardo is a member of the Spotswood High School cross country team as well.
The annual race is sponsored by the Spotswood Recreation Department and takes place rain or shine on the second Saturday in September. All of the proceeds from the race go to benefit athletic teams and programs at Spotswood High School.
