SPOTSWOOD, NJ - Being a part of the Chargers' basketball and softball teams for all four years have been a major part of Jaclyn Gialanella's experience at Spotswood High School. The senior was recently awarded the 2019-20 Greater Middlesex Conference Sportsmanship Award for female athletes. Gialanella was able to finish out her final season of basketball. However, the coronavirus pandemic forced the cancellation of all spring sports including softball after New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy nixed a return to school this academic year.

In addition to sports, the Spotswood native was a Peer Mentor and was a high honor roll student throughout her four years at Spotswood High School. Gialanella's favorite class was Graphics and her top teacher was Spotswood High School Science teacher Martin Dempsey.

Most of Gialanella's top memories as a Charger involve playing on the basketball and softball teams. Gianella will always cherish "being a part of a team and playing the sports" she loves.

Gialanella is headed to Middlesex Community College in Edison in the fall. She earned a NJ Stars Scholarship. Gialanella is excited about the next chapter, but isn't sure yet what she plans to major in.
