SPOTSWOOD, NJ - The Spotswood High School boys varsity basketball team lost out in their bid to move above .500 with a 75-52 loss to Middlesex High School on Monday. Spotswood had 16 points from Jack Welsh and 11 from senior Andrew Bishara, but it wasn't enough to derail the Blue Jays who had 24 points from Brendan Buckley and 22 from Mark Brower.

Freshman Casey Cumiskey continued to make a positive impression in his first varsity season, scoring 10 points for Spotswood. Tyrus Chippendale netted 13 for Middlesex while Kevin Reynolds added 11. George Guyette chipped in seven for the Chargers who dropped to 5-6 overall and 3-3 in the Greater Middlesex Conference Blue Division.

Spotswood will look to bounce back to .500 on Friday when the Chargers host South Plainfield High School at the Spotswood High School Gymnasium. Tip off is at 5:30 p.m. The Chargers won the previous meeting between the two teams this season last month. The two teams split their games last year. South Plainfield had an overall record of 3-5 this season.
