EDISON, NJ - The Spotswood High School boys varsity basketball team's win streak was stopped at five by Edison High School on Saturday. Edison defeated the Chargers 71-38. Nasir McLean was the game's top scorer with 19 and also earned a double-double by grabbing 10 rebounds. Niko Barnes netted 16 for the Eagles. Shane Doherty added 10 points for Edison and Emanuel Davila notched 10 assists.
George Guyette put up 12 points for the Chargers and James Clarke netted 10. Jack Welsh scored eight points and Andrew Bishara chipped in five. The loss drops Spotswood's overall record 10-11 and their Greater Middlesex Conference record to 7-7. Edison is 12th in the conference with a 12-3 record. Spotswood is 18th in the conference. St. Joseph's of Metuchen leads the GMC with a 12-0 record.
Spotswood gets back on the court on Monday when the team hosts Dunellen High School at the Spotswood High School Gymnasium. The Chargers lost last year's meeting with the Destroyers. Dunellen is undefeated in their last five games and leads the Greater Middlesex Conference Gold Division with a 14-1 division record. Spotswood has a 6-6 division record and is in fourth place in the Blue Division. St. Thomas leads the Blue Division. Tip off is at 7 p.m. on Monday.
