SOUTH RIVER, NJ - The Spotswood High School boys varsity soccer team completed the season sweep of South River High School on Wednesday at the annual evening matchup under the lights at South River's Veterans Park. Luke Tharney had a goal and an assist in the Chargers 2-1 victory over the Rams. Yanni Hatzistefanis netted the other goal for Spotswood who scored both goals in the second half. The two teams ended the half knotted at zero. Liam Barlow had an assist for Spotswood in the win. Otavio Dias scored the lone goal for the Rams. Andrew Bishara stopped 11 shots for the Chargers while his counterpart Anthony Faccin made six saves for South River.
Spotswood's victory improves the team's overall season record to 8-5 and gives the Chargers bragging rights over the hot rivalry between the two teams. The Chargers have won the last five outings with South River. Spotswood is back on the field on Friday to take on John F. Kennedy High School at the Spotswood High School Varsity Soccer Field. The Chargers won the previous meeting between the two teams 3-0. Game time is 4 p.m. on October 4.
