SPOTSWOOD, NJ - After all three singles players battled in three set matches on Monday, the Spotswood High School girls varsity tennis team's match with Perth Amboy High School was shortened due to darkness. Perth Amboy High came away with the victory, defeating Spotswood 3-0. Gabriela Zeron took the first set in her first singles match in a, (7-6), tie-breaker over Charlize Leon. Leon fought back to take the final two sets, (6-2, 6-1). Karen Mausser faced a similar scenario on her second singles match with Yeng Shae. Mausser won the first set, (6-4), but then lost the remaining two sets, (6-2, 6-3). Axelle Lemiere fought back to take the second set of her third singles match to Janai Pegron, (6-2). Pegron won the first set, (6-1). Lemiere ended up losing the deciding set, (6-0).
The third singles win sealed the victory for Perth Amboy so the final two doubles matches were declared a draw since the Spotswood High School Tennis Courts do not have lights. The win over Spotswood was Perth Amboy's first of the season. The loss drops the Chargers' overall record to 3-9. Spotswood travels to Carteret High School this afternoon to take on the Ramblers. The Chargers won the last meeting between the two teams, coming away with a 3-2 victory to start the season on September 5.
