BOUND BROOK, NJ - The Spotswood High School boys varsity basketball team took the court on Friday to face Point Pleasant Beach High School in the annual Crusader Classic at Bound Brook High School. Spotswood came away with a 60-51 victory in the first game of the tournament. Bound Brook defeated Newark's Great Oaks Charter in the second game. The two teams will face off tonight at 7 p.m. to determine the 2019 Crusader Classic champ.
Bound Brook Head Coach Anthony Melesurgo tweeted out this morning that he was looking forward to tonight's matchup with the Chargers since Spotswood is "well-coached and competitive." Spotswood is coached by longtime basketball coach Steve Mate. Mate has been behind the bench for the Chargers for the last 24 seasons.
An enthusiastic group of Chargers fans' traveled up to Bound Brook to root for Spotswood including a shark who led the fans in a rally dance. There weren't any sightings of baby shark though. Bound Brook High School is located at 111 West Union Avenue.
The Chargers girls varsity basketball team begins their annual holiday tournament today at Monroe High School. Spotswood will face Monroe at 5 p.m.
