MONROE, NJ - Brielle Fitzpatrick netted 21 points to led Monroe High School past the Spotswood High School girls varsity basketball team on Saturday in the first round of the Monroe Holiday Tournament. Monroe took a commanding 36-15 lead into the halftime break and kept the Chargers to only 14 points in the final two quarters.

The loss was the first for Spotswood who opened the season with two straight wins. Monroe, the tournament host, remains undefeated with a 3-0 overall record. Spotswood will play Perth Amboy High School on Monday afternoon at 1 p.m. in the consolation game while Monroe takes on Steinert in the finals.

Jessica Addesso was Spotswood's top scorer with nine. Maddie Hellerich netted eight points for Spotswood while Julia Masucci added seven. Jackie Gialanella scored three and Gianna Perez chipped in two. Ava Hellerich had one point in her third varsity start as a freshman. Stella Giustino put up 17 for Monroe and Madison Carey added 12 for the Falcons.

Spotswood returns to regular season action on Friday, January 3 when the Chargers host Carteret High School. Game time is 5:30 p.m. at the Spotswood High School Gymnasium.
