OCEANPORT, NJ - The weather cooperated with the Spotswood High School girls basketball program's second annual Day at the Races at Monmouth Race Track on Sunday. It was warm, but not too hot as the basketball team and its coaches, parents and Chargers supporters came out to enjoy food, fun and some horse racing. The event was a fundraiser for the SHS girls basketball program and was organized and hosted by Spotswood High School girls basketball coach Vincent Vizzi.

Last season was the first as a head coach for Vizzi, who is a former Charger and Spotswood native. The Memorial Middle School physical education teacher was an assistant to the varsity squad and the junior varsity coach for three years before taking over for former girls basketball head coach and Schoenly School physical education teacher Jill Hetzler. The team had an overall record of 9-18 and a conference record of 6-6 last season.

The team hit the court this summer for a basketball camp at Albright College in Reading, Pennsylvania in July and also had fun working with future Chargers at the annual Youth Chargers Basketball Camp. Sunday's Day at the Races was a chance for the team to bond off the court and revel in a day with friends and family.
