$13K in Federal Grants Awarded to Protect Bloomfield Firefighters

BLOOMFIELD, NJ - Today, Mayor Michael Venezia announced $13,637 in federal grant money has been awarded to the Township of Bloomfield. This funding comes from an Assistance to Firefighter Grant (AFG) grant and will be used to ensure that firefighters receive proper training in the Emergency Medical Technician discipline to further improve emergency services at no additional cost to taxpayers.

“The members of Bloomfield Fire Department put their lives on the line every day to protect our citizens, and this grant will ensure they have quality training to help do their jobs better and more safely,” said Mayor Venezia. “This funding is an investment that will improve public safety by providing our firefighters with EMT training to allow them to assist residents during medical emergencies while also protecting taxpayers. I would like to thank Senators Menendez and Booker, and Congressman Donald Payne, Jr. for their help pursuing this grant.”

The AFG program is administered by the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Since it was established in 2001, New Jersey has received nearly $163 million in funding from the AFG program to enhance response capabilities, as well as to more effectively protect the health and safety of the public and emergency response personnel. Other New Jersey municipalities to receive grants through AFG are: Bayview, Bordentown, New Milford, Plainfield, Woodbine and Woodbury Heights.
