NEWARK, NJ - The murder of a 42-year-old Montclair man Sunday afternoon in Newark is under investigation.
According to a press release, Newark Police officers were dispatched to 48 Van Ness Place on report of a shooting sometime after 2:30 p.m.
Officers found George R. Allen, III, age 42, of Montclair, unresponsive inside a parked car. Allen had been shot and was rushed to University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 3:15 p.m., according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly of the Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit.
This matter is being investigated by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department, says Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose.
Fennelly informed TAP into Montclair that the investigation is active and ongoing.
