Astronaut Mark Kelly to Unveil New Science Center at Montclair State University, Oct. 13

MONTCLAIR, NJ - Montclair State University will receive a special visit during the unveiling of a new science center on October 13 from former NASA astronaut Mark Kelly and visionary scientist and entrepreneur Robert Hariri. The duo will join MSU officials to officially open the new Center for Environmental and Pharmaceutical Life Sciences (CELS) building.

The $55 million, 107,500-square-foot, LEED(R) Silver-certified Center for Environmental and Pharmaceutical Life Sciences building seeks to expand instructional laboratories for MSU students who are pursuing studies in the sciences.

Mark Kelly, former NASA astronaut, West Orange native and U.S. Navy Captain and test pilot, and Robert Hariri, chairman, founder and chief scientific officer for Celgene Cellular Therapeutics, who pioneered the use of stem cells to treat a range of life threatening diseases, will cap the event with a discussion on “The Future of Science,” moderated by Robert Prezant, Dean of Montclair State University’s College of Science and Mathematics beginning at 5 p.m. The panel discussion will immediately follow a reception that begins at 4 p.m.
